Freewrite Alpha: Cosmic Edition - Honestly it boils down to being a mechanical keyboard with some pretty keycaps that’s attached to a LCD screen. The new generation’s typewriter. But the ethos behind the intentional “bare-bones” display is what’s got my attention. The device prevents editing (outside of full on deletion via the backspace) of what is meant to be the rough draft. It is meant to enable a writing flow and provide zero distractions to achieving that goal.

Honeylambs - adopt a lost soul or two from hell this Easter.
Jack Daw Folk Art - local (817) artist’s online shop. rife with my kind of pop-culture and mythological references. linocut prints and stickers.
hectoroz_ - X feed of a brutal and exquisite GIF artist. his work is unlike anything I have seen before.
Taper - “an online literary magazine for small computational pieces.”
Outer Wilds - Interesting looking game. First person open-world exploration of a solar system caught in a devastating time vortex.
Ayaneo - Manufacturer of portable Windows gaming devices.. but more importantly, they make and sell the AYANEO POCKET DMG and the AYANEO POCKET DS which resemble an original Gameboy and the 3DS respectively.

This will mark the transition of Things I Stumbled Across into a weekly “round-up” instead of a randomly timed dump-o-the-day series.

As with my initial intent, sometimes there will be a common theme solidifying the links into a cohesive meal.. But don’t always count on it. This week started out very gay.

Hypebot article signaling a recent rash of corporate automated moderation tools shutting down and outright banning the instagram pages of underground sex-positive, queer, and BDSM/kink/counter-culture centered “dance music collectives.” The gist is that these LLM/AI moderation systems that Meta is operating lack the ability to see the nuances present in posts that are centered on anti-hetero-normative sexual practices. The tools see anything these communities posted as sex-trafficking, which violate Meta’s TOS and ban the entire account without much recourse for appeal. Years of informational, transactional and historical posts are ripped from the living archive that social media had become for these groups. And Meta is doing next to nothing to change their tools’ methods.

Kahoot Names - A walk down memory lane. Made up names that are highly inappropriate. The one that towers above them all: **Heywood Jablowme. **
The Free Dictionary - First and foremost, it is a wonderful and adept dictionary. And, shocker, it’s free. The company, Farlex, which runs the site have the stated mission of “Providing innovative, easy-to-use reference and learning tools.” I can dig on that purpose. Advertising seems to be their bread and butter, like most all of media and the ’net. I’ve visited TFD everyday for the past week and I probably won’t stop doing so for the foreseeable future.
Joseph Cornell - American artist born in the early 1900s. Made collages, created object boxes, heavily influenced by film. His works are delightful and ephemeral and invoke a sense of seeing someone’s private thoughts.

Mental health is a big deal. We, as a society, often down-play or outright ignore the importance of having access to quality care and resources. I have suffered from major depressive disorder and general anxiety for most of my adult life. I’ve also been horribly under-insured for the same length of time. I brought together a small collection of resources (sadly, most if not all are specific to America.)

Open Path Collective - An organization dedicated to providing its members quality mental health care at reasonable prices. Has some advice/guides on how to effectively use your health insurance (if one is lucky enough to have health insurance) to cover mental health.
MHMR - Texas/Virginia specific. My current behavioral health provider. Sliding scale payments. Social/Case Workers provided. A governmental entity, but doing the good work as best it can.
The National Suicide Hotline - Simply dial 988 from any phone: cellular or land-line, and you will get a real live person who is trained in proper ways to talk to you when you’re in suicidal crisis. They have access to resources and get you in touch with local mental health organizations. **This is not forever. You can overcome your crisis. **
Crisis Text Hotline - Text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the USA to begin texting with a crisis counselor who will help you navigate your feelings and emotions when in crisis mode. This hotline is different from the suicide one in that it deals with any crisis you may be going through.

Please know that you are worthy and deserving of any and all good things that come your way. I don’t know you but I love you.

Here lately, it’s been daemons and programs to run on my VPS.

snac2 - Social Networks Are Crap. An ActivityPub/Fediverse instance with sleek, minimal feature-set. Looks sexy as fuck in the UNIX-y daemon kinda way.
werc - A sane web anti-framework. Powers many interesting/weird sites on the web.
gdu - A disk analyzer written in Go. Nothing special, but cute and fast.
GoToSocial - Another ActivityPub Hub thing… This time in Go, and not quite as UNIX-sexy.

Hoping to make this a series of posts, with this being the initial seed. Usually, while blindly hopping from one web-page to the other via hrefs, when I come across something that sparks my interest, I throw it into the shaarli to look into later.

I don’t put objects of retail interest there tho.. Nor do I generally add other people’s personal web-spaces to it. Those are the two main categories on display here. With the caveat that I will also do as I damn well please, thank you very much.
